Medical Assistant Tira Brown and her team in Dermatology received a team Partners in Excellence Award.
When a patient arrived at BWH for a routine appointment and received unexpected news, phlebotomist Telisha Morris noticed the patient looked upset. She asked if everything was all right, and the patient began crying.
“She just grabbed me and gave me the kindest, most honest and heartfelt hug,” wrote the patient in a nomination of Morris for the Partners in Excellence Award. “She comforted me in one of my darkest moments, and for that, I will forever be grateful.”
Morris was one of 35 individuals from BWH, the Brigham and Women’s Physicians Organization and Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center honored with a Partners in Excellence Award last week, along with 650 members of 35 project teams. Award recipients were nominated by their colleagues and managers for outstanding contributions in leadership and innovation, delivering quality care and service, operational efficiency and teamwork.
“All of you make significant contributions to the delivery of the best and safest patient care in the world today,” said BWH President Gary Gottlieb, MD, MBA, to the recipients. “You put your arms around our mission and make this place truly special.”
Elizabeth Scanlan, NP, nurse manager at Brookside Community Health Center, told recipients how delighted she was to receive an award one year for a project at Brookside. “Someone who worked with our team and appreciated the hard and difficult work we did submitted the nomination,” she said, encouraging all recipients to recognize others whose work directly impacts patient care, research and teaching.
Partners President and CEO James J. Mongan, MD, who steps down at the end of December, shared a review of Partners success and growth in the past few years and a look at what’s in store. “Thank you for the incredible privilege of being able to represent all of you, and congratulations for the awards you are receiving,” he said.
